Gear 1 officially supports DDR4-3200, while good samples can go higher. Meanwhile, DDR5 will always run in Gear 2. DDR5 memory support on Raptor Lake depends on the number of populated memory slots.
Looks good to me. B-die refers to a RAM chip made by Samsung - it's the thing G.Skill etc buy a bunch of to assemble into the RAM sticks you can buy. B-die is very fast, but very expensive. Generally, anything 3200 C16 or slower is non-B-die and B-die is required to get to 3200 C14 or above.
It might be a good one. My ram is Samsung DDR4-2666 cl19 @ 3600 cl16 bare ram no heatsink. got it for only $65 (16gb) a piece. my 2666mhz ram is cl19 so tell me
16GB is now the bare minimum, like 8GB was a few years ago. If building new with a medium or larger budget, I think 32GB is correct. If budget is a major concern, 16GB is still "fine" for a majority of gaming but we are starting to see games require more. Agreed. better to get 32gb.
I was quite confused whether to discard the stock 16 GB RAM and go for 2x8 or just buy another 16 GB stick. Finally, I decided to go with buying a 16 GB stick. Of late, most of the gaming laptops (Indian variants) come with a single channel RAM. Unfortunately, single channel heavily affects performance regardless of however good the GPU and CPU
For rendering workloads - these don't scale that much with memory to be honest, I think you should be pretty good for that use case even on 2666MHz kit, but I didn't see any tests on 3DS max for example, so I'm not sure about all your programs. 21 Inevitable_Text_5596 OP • 2 yr. ago tWoZ. 246 80 451 383 457 168 55 100 77
